Let's Rewrite History

Writer's picture: BelleBelle

A bit late because I didn't realize I hadn't posted this yet - Owl Crate's March box was Let's Rewrite History. I was looking forward to seeing which direction this theme would go in, especially given the historical fiction/fantasy feel I was getting from the logo. I love how the items all came together, both aesthetically and through their stories.

Oh my goodness this might be the most beautiful book I have seen. There is no dust jacket but it has a soft matte feel, gold accents on the cover and end pages, intricate fantastical/steampunk designs, and gold-edged pages. The story is a fantasy take on a time loop, promising a gilded court, dramatic twists, and plenty of chaos. Sounds like a truly fitting pick for a box to rewrite history.

I have another book sleeve and to be honest, have never used it. When I first opened this one I figured I would probably hang it up somewhere since it is so pretty and has such a lovely quote. By serendipitous chance though, because this box's book didn't come with a dust jacket, I ended up wanting something exactly like this so I didn't have to worry about marring the gorgeous cover in my bag.

Eternal Pencil - Babel

This might be my favorite item I have received from Owl Crate. I had no idea what the label meant when I first saw it (never having read Babel, perhaps there is some connection I just couldn't get without the story) but it turns out it is a "long-lasting nib" that requires no sharpening. I have no idea how long exactly that means but I am so looking forward to finding out. Unscrewing the body of the pencil reveals a hidden eraser... inside a chamber that can surely hide some other secrets as well.

The Treasured Tomes collection continues to impress with a gorgeous and fitting new pin. The books themselves are some of my favorite covers, so getting a miniature version of the Ballad was so exciting.

Socks - Library Cards

Adorable ankle socks that look like traditional library checkout cards. It makes me sad to think that most readers younger than me now wouldn't get the nostalgia from this item that I got to experience.

A sleek glass tumbler with a glass straw and a creative made-up bookstore design for Jem and Will. I love the details that went into it and I love how it reminded me of the bag from the January Courting the Fae box with Jude and Caardan's made-up bookstore as well. I would visit any business run by these two.

My complaint about this one is that the March Sneak Peek gave away the item. It didn't show the design but showed a blank tumbler and announced that it would be Infernal Devices inspired. I'm sure it is done to draw in customers and drum up excitement for the box but I enjoy being surprised when I get to unbox it myself. Since I can't avoid coming across just those posts, I would rather they make it so you have to scroll to see the sneak peek.
