The "has been made into a move" spot goes to Stardust, by Neil Gaiman.
I have loved the movie for years, and only recently discovered by chance that it was based off a book. I should have known that this had to have been the original for such a beauty. I must admit that I do think I generally enjoyed the movie better - the visuals are done so well, and the story just feels more alive and fanciful. But still certainly worth a read!
