A book with a sword on the cover (of both US editions) is City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare.
After reading the first book for the first time almost eight years ago, I finally made it to the end of the series. I discovered that my trouble was taking too long in between books, so once I fixed that I was able to fall into them as heavily as they were intended to be read.
